doggie days

Ok folks here is the new puppie I got for my
granddaughters 9th birthday. Both of them are
crazy about dogs. In fact all the kiddos love them.

She is a Yorkie Poo- She is so sweet. I don't think Snickers has quite figured out what she is yet. A wind up toy or what! Uh OOO she just grabbed one of his favorite toys and ran off with it.
Good boy- he is sharing.
Right now she is going by Sadie Lynn.
My friends have given her some real names! (Desdimona, Baby Beamer, Onyx, Sheba, Emma).
I don't think she weighs a pound yet. She is 9 weeks old.
She likes to grab snickers scarf and pull on it! I am supposed to have her toilet trained by the time I take her up to Maryland-wish me luck on that one. It's all I can do to get her to eat right now.
The collar I bought her is too big, and it's the smallest one I could find. She is only supposed to get to about 7 pounds. She looks about the size of Snickers when we got him.
It's real hard to get the dogs to both look at ya the same time. I guess I didn't do too badly. Dau #1 is scolding her now for biting her toes.

Mountain Man

Bought this hydrangea for Easter- so pretty.
Still haven't planted, but will get around to it one
of these days! Am planning some gardening, but don't seem to get around to it. Has been pretty hot, guess I will have to set the clock to get up before it's too hot to work outside? Today is supposed to get to 85 or so. NO I am not complaining.

Was feeling pretty sad the other day and wrote this little thing. Sometimes it makes one feel better just to write? Maybe one day I will get better at it?

Earth Day a Day Late

Tote cotton bags to the grocery store. Drink out of a reusable water bottle. We've heard more Earth Day tips than we can shake a Forestry Stewardship Council-certified stick at. But what about the environmental no-nos? Diane MacEachern, author of Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World, offers a top 10 list of things we shouldn't’t do to protect the planet.

1. Don’t drive like a teenager, speeding up and slowing down and weaving in and out of traffic. Such aggressive driving can lower fuel efficiency by 33 percent. Accelerate gently and stay with the traffic to save gas and money.
2. Don’t use cleansers and personal care products that contain triclosan or other antibacterial agents. Public health officials worry that antibacterials in cleansers, window cleaners, and soaps are causing us to become resistant to antibiotics. Use simple soap and hot water for cleaning, and body soaps and lotions that do not say “antibacterial” or “fights germs” on the label.
3. Don’t go shopping without a list! According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, people waste about 30 percent of their household food budgets buying groceries that eventually expire and have to be thrown out. Know what you want to buy before you hit the store aisles—you’ll buy less of what you don’t need, buy more of what you’re likely to use, and reduce the impact your shopping has on the planet. Then put your list on your refrigerator so you don’t forget what’s inside.
4. Don’t leave the lights on when you leave the room. You could save as much as $100 per year in electricity costs by turning off a 100-watt light bulb when you’re not using the light.
5. Don’t leave the computer on if you’re going to be gone longer than two hours, and don’t leave the monitor on if you’re going to be gone longer than 20 minutes. If you plug your electronics into an energy-saving power strip, you can reduce the energy they use by as much as 40 percent.
6. Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth. Turning off the tap when you brush your teeth can save up to 8 gallons of water a day, 240 gallons a month – saving hundreds on your water bill each year.
7. Don’t buy “snack packs” that come wrapped in cardboard and plastic. Small individual packages use more energy and resources to manufacture and transfer, and are often twice as expensive as the same product sold in a larger bag or box.
8. Don’t use so much shampoo, soap, lotion, make-up, gel, and perfume. More than 25 percent of all women and one of every 100 men use at least 15 products daily, according to a survey of 2,300 men and women, exposing people to hundreds of chemicals during the course of a day. Can you reduce the number of products you use by at least three?
9. Don’t buy new. Remember the 3 R’s of eco-friendly living? They begin with “reduce” (the other two are “re-use” and “recycle”). If you need to shop, start with eBay, Freecycle.org, the neighbor’s yard sale, or the community vintage or thrift store.
10. Don’t sit at your computer all day. Get outdoors for at least an hour to remember why Mother Nature is worth protecting. Besides, if you’ve done all the other don’ts on this list, you deserve to take a break!

Was out all day yesterday trying out my new car. Probably wasting gas, but at least not as much.' and it was such a pretty day to do it! I find myself conserving more every day. Is it my age or is it I am more aware?

Ya know Americans waste so much! Ya just need to visit other countries. We are definitely a throw away culture!

I am gonna try and get out side and do that garden I have been wanting to do so, better get off the computer before the temp rises too high.

MY NEW TOY

Well I decided I needed this? Actually before hubby died we were talking about it, so decided I should go ahead and get.

As you all know, dau#1 is handicapped, and had so much trouble getting into the van. She has absolutely no prob getting into this!

Ya think the red is me?? Hubby always said we shouldn't have a red vehicle-'Stats say they have the most accidents.' Owell what will be will be!

It had 9miles on the odometer when I picked up, I bet that won't last for long!

After the Rain

Guess everyone has heard by now we had 'tornadoes' here in Florida.
I fell very lucky they didn't hit my house, but were quite nearby.
Man the sky's were awesome, a very different color & hue.
Black & green clouds quickly flew by. It moved 25 miles per hour.
Maybe so, but it was pretty ugly all day here.
Late in the afternoon, while I was laying down reading in my room,
there was such a clash & boom of thunder & lightening.
Dau#1 screamed, and I quickly got out of bed to make sure all was ok in the Casa! Whew, butterflies were ablast in my stomach! but all was well!


During the day I put all my plants out for some good ole rain and
even went to neighbors to get theirs out too.
Both of them are over 80, what else could I do.
Had to take pup out in the rain-he doesn't like that,
but I waited till it died down abit. He doesn't like the rain!
I also had more visitors in the Casa than the norm!
I couldn't believe they were out.


Now the after the rain part-

PEEPS

OK, you caught me in the Easter Candy! I just can't help myself. Don't buy much chocolate, cause I just can't eat one! Actually this is Dau#1's
but owell she is in bed !
Don't ya love the peeps "basket"? A yard sale find-I actually paid 25 cents for the basket so I could afford to buy more candy!
Went to a friend's home for Dinner last eve. That woman can sure cook. We had ham, potato salad, sweet potatoes, a fave squash thing she makes, homemade green beans, corn, apple sauce,deviled eggs, homemade Sangria and this decadent chocolate cake! WOOWOO I was stuffed.
O I forgot, I brought a shrimp & tortellini dish. I always forget you are not supposed to cook Italian food for an Italian, but all said it was good.

Don't feel too bad for me, but I actually got a sunburn on my back yesterday! Just walking the dog. Today it was hard getting up! Probably was a combo of the sunburn & wine & food I had yesterday. I am drowning myself in water today to flush it all out!

Was another lovely day here in Florida. We are expected to get rain tomorrow. We really need it. we are only supposed to water the plants one time per week! You guessed it- tomorrow is the day! Well I guess I have rambled long enough. Hope all are well!

the Hat Lady

I never, never wear a hat and found the sun so hot decided to steal this one from dau#1. Actually was having a very bad hair day but wanted a pic from this beautiful site. Silly me, but her hair always looks good even when she says she is having a bad hair day. You would not believe my daughters' hair- both of them! Have an abundance of hair! I know they got that from both sides even though dear ole dad was pretty bald! He had luscious hair when we first met. He always told folk " she wore it off me", or "they don't put marble tops on cheap furniture". He had an abundance of those silly sayings!

Whenever asked "whats your favorite holiday?" I always say 'o I don't know', but this week I am saying Easter is my favorite. I have never really liked Christmas, but now really don't like too much. My mom died 2 days after and hubby died 4 days after! Plus Christmas always has so many expectations that aren't always realised! Plus I get SADD.
With Easter, spring is starting all the flowers I love are blooming, and the world is waking up. My SADD departs for another season! YEAH

Went to do some last minute grocery shopping this am before the crowds started. How smart is that! However, when I stopped by Einstein Bagel to get something for dau#1, YIKES the folks were out in a vengeance! I had to wait a bit til her one breakfast sandwich got done!

Does anyone hate crowds as much as me? I hate shopping period. People don't understand that in me. Owell, just another tidbit about me.

Well I have loads to do before some friends stop by for dinner, so better close!

Though He was condemned, mocked, whipped, beaten and nailed to the cross He remained silent. Not accusing, not defending, not arguing, not condemning, not angry. No rather, He remained silent in submission to the will of the Father in perfect obedience.

Tuesday Already?!

Treasure Island Beach Fla. Corinne, my niece has been visiting! I have been so busy! Never a dull moment with her around.
Then a friend had to go away for a few days and I am now with 2 dogs! yikes, how much fun is one woman to have! our dogs get along just fine, but walking 2 dogs is soo much FUN, not. Then the issue of where do they sleep! They want to play into wee hours of the night! We have taken to putting in separate rooms, but they try all night to get together to PLAY! Of course Mollie, the visitor doesn't want to eat, but my dog Snickers loves her food. Today I even took him out longer so she could eat, did she eat, of course not! I figure she will eat eventually!

O my niece doesn't like animals!

A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. O I almost forgot- the tree I posted about last is an Oak- it is dated 300-500 yrs old-how do they date a tree again!?

HOT N HUMID

The oldest tree in these parts- in our town. Don't think I posted it before, and too lazy to look.
Well we arrived safely back here in Florida. Took 2 days from Maryland- we stayed overnight in Georgia. We have to stay in a place that accepts pets as our pretty pup goes with us. Ya know they charged $10 for him, for a small shih tzu! Owell I could be dishonest and not tell, but am not made that way! He is small, quiet and well behaved!
Glad to be back to my own bed, but is it hot and humid! was ok slowly getting used to it, but OMY after being in MD with cool temps it's quite an adjustment. Guess I will have to spend the afternoon at the pool! Whats a woman to do- someone has to do it. I will be thinking of ya all up north!

Well Happy April Fool's day! I always remember it with great delight. My dad didn't like many holidays, but he loved April Fool's Day- He loved to play pranks and the better he fooled ya the better he liked it. Also, I remember a woman I worked wiht over the years always said say "White Rabbits, White Rabbits , White Rabbits on the first of April and you will have good luck the remainder of the year- Somehow I always remember to say it! silly huh, what we remember and do!

Let's be thrifty Today!

On a beach in Clearwater

I read several blogs today and found many were writing about being thrifty, so thought I would continue with the theme.

1.THIS SATURDAY 28 MARCH AT 8.30PM YOU CAN VOTE EARTH BY SWITCHING OFF YOUR LIGHTS FOR ONE HOUR - EARTH HOUR. Please join in, it's only one hour!
2. We have been hanging clothes outside on the line- here at my daughters it saves about $30 per month! The clothes smell so good, and reduces the ironing too!
3. Get your gardens ready! even if ya live in an apartment you can container garden and have enough tomatoes & herbs to last the summer-PAX! Dau #2 built a small 10X 5 ft garden which supplied cucumbers, peppers, & string beans for her and her family last year. With enough to share with folks @ church. There is a fun way to grow veggies someone told me about where I live-you get a 20 LB bag of potting soil, lay it on the ground, cut horizontal, plant your tomatoes, peppers etc in it, grows the veggies perfectly, keeps out unwanted weeds. I am trying that this year, since space is limited where I live. If I ever get back!
4. Don't ever forget "Good Will or Salvation Armies"- they have some great almost new stuff for pennies of what you would buy in the Macy's/Penny's and even Walmart! At our church we have what is called 'the Clothes Closet' You could go there once a month and get nearly new and new stuff for nothing! You are supporting good causes plus saving a ton of money- These places are no longer only for the indigent. My younger brother would never go, but I kept egging him about it, so he finally went. he doesn't get his Jeans anywhere else now. It is quite surprising what folk literally throw away! It may not fit right, or they didn't like after they came home. Many things even have the price tags still attached.
5. Get a neighbor or friend involved with your saving- barter for things. For example if you don't have a much needed wheelbarrow or like borrow instead of buying and let them have something in return. Maybe you could go to the store for them or borrow something they have. And return in a timely manner in the way you got it! Bartering has been around a long time and we have just forgotten about it.
6. and lastly think! yes think before you buy! Sounds crazy I know, but think "do I really need this" or "do I want this" I personally am on a 'vow of poverty" for one year. I am using everything out of the overstuffed kitchen cupboards unless I really need it( I can't tell ya how many different kinds of tea are in my cabinets!, or how many bottles of barbecue sauce, and don't even ask how many bottles of wine! and I don't consider myself a drinker!). I am not buying any new clothes unless I really need. Have been bad while here in MD but will get back to it when I go back to FLA.

Another Monday

I am missing the beauty of Florida weather for sure. Here is a pic I took shortly before I came up north on the Causeway. My brothers favorite quote for the day was.The water is sooo clear! Well DUH! we are in Clearwater. He wanted to strike me, but thought better of it since i was driving.

We are a bit sick here in Maryland. Grandson #2 was diagnosed with strep throat today. He even has an "impressive rash" quote from the doc. I am sure I have it too and started an antibiotic. Dau #1 is trying desperately not to get it, although I think she is doomed-she sounds like she is next. That's what I get for cleaning from top to bottom in this house. I even have ALL the laundry washed dried and put away. (believe it or not)Dau#2 says I stirred up the germs.

The weather is a bit nicer today I actually went outside without my winter coat! I have dinner started and now must go fetch the other grandchildren from school AAH quiet ends now until bedtime!

Today was a little different. The kiddos were home and didn't go to their dad's. I made them clean their rooms! Alas everyone suddenly got a headache! But I wouldn't be put off. The rooms were cleaned properly and drawers redone. All 'too little' clothing was put for needy kids. My grandchildren DO NOT NEED ANOTHER PIECE OF CLOTHING, until they grow out of some of the ones they have. They also don't need anymore toys. They need to go through some of the ones they have and give to another kid-maybe my next project, but it will have to wait til summer when I return.

Please pray for a friend's sister, She is newly diagnosed with breast cancer. She is the youngest sis. Last year both his mom and other sister were diagnosed with breast cancer and have hopefully beat it. Pax Romano will be happy for all the prayers.

The weather man promised WARM weather- he didn't get it right again. Although it was a lovely day. It certainly wasn't warm!

The stars have been quite nice the past few days. You can see ORIAN and many others. I walk the dog @ night. A doggie must piddle before he goes to bed!

For my last thought for today. Grandson #2 says he wants to marry me-how cute!

I have not been on the computer the past few days, just haven't been interested plus have had much to do here in MD. I will be starting back to FLORIDA next weekend sometime, still haven't finalised when as my niece may be driving down with us and has to get the time off.

My dau #2 has been recuperating nicely. She should be fit as a fiddle before too long. Ya know sometimes it is hard work taking care of the grand kiddos. I have much fun with them, but still lots to do with seven people here. Two of which are presently handicapped. Just driving the kiddos back and forth to school can fill up a day. Then there is always cooking and cleaning. Did I ever mention my daughter reminds me of her dad? She is quite the pack rat! I have been unratting her.Teehee.

Then don't even mention laundry! Does anyone know how much laundry seven people generate in a week! Yikes is all I can say on that. We are hanging them out now its a bit nicer weather. Yesterday I had just gotten two loads hung out and it started to rain! To put it mildly I wasn't exactly blessed! Today is is blustery and quite good for drying on the line. Although a bit chilly.

we are sorta doing spring cleaning, after all it is spring. I get the glorious job of separating things that are too small. Since they grow at quite a clip its a real undertaking. #1 grandson grew an inch since Christmas.We wear the same size shoe! He is about 4 inches shorter than grannyjax and he is only ten! #1 twin caught up with #2 twin in height in the same amount of time. And the little one is now up above my chest- he is now 6! He is a good foot taller than most of the kiddos in Kindergarten!

Ah spring, not warm here yet,but some of the flowers are starting despite the cold weather. Daffodils, snowdrops, and pussy willow. Want to rake leaves,but no time left in the day!@--,

Dau #2 surgery went well, better than expected!
She didn't have to have the tendon transplant!
Praise the Lord!
She is already doing too much on it!
I may just break the other leg if she doesn't stay off the one repairing!
The kiddos had a great time decorating the cast.
You should have seen them when they saw her the first time!

Don't know what is up with the pain in the back/butt today. Must have hung too many clothes on the line or picked up too much trash or cleaned too much at my dau#2 house. Her bathroom is still in the process of getting done. It looks quite nice!
OO it could never be the long drive from Florida or taking the stuff I brought up here for dau#29tools from her dad. Or of course getting dau#1 wheelchair in & out of the car.
All I know is my sciatica is there just a raging! Pain mid back down left hip/butt down to mid leg. Owell and this too shall pass.
Here is something to ponder and give me a reason; why do I hate to pay bills? No it isn't cause I don't have the money. I just hate the process of sitting down and doing them. Analyse that for me will ya! and with that in mind I MUST GET DONE TODAY!

TARPON SPRINGS FLORIDA

JUST A COUPLE OF PICS FROM THE SPONGE DOCKS IN TARPON SPRINGS


This was the day before we left Florida before going back up north. Tarpon is a little village on the Bayou. It is well known for it's 'Sponge Docks', has been known as the Sponge Capitol of the World. The Greeks settled here and still harvest & sell sponges. It also has some wonderful restaurants.
We ate at one such place, named 'Santorin's' . We had a feast for a king. My brother had the sea food special. Scallops, shrimp, mussels in a light spaghetti gravy. I shared scallops with pasta in creamy sauce, the scallops were to die for! Of course we had to have homemade Sangria. Others had lamb/beef combo,chicken in traditional bread. O did I forget that Greek salad! We had no room for the desserts! Next time maybe!?
We also walked for a short time and did some shops, but had to go get puppy at the groomer. My brother & sister inlaw said-not fair! We haven't seen enough. I told them I was just showing them snippets so they had to come back to enjoy more!
It has many classic old homes which were home for the wealthy in the 1800's. I love to peer into Victorian type homes!
After picking up pup went to a lovely park near the ST Nick's Orthodox Church on the Bayou. They have an unusual custom of diving for crosses on New Year's day in this part of the Bayou. Today it was filled with Manatee. We prob saw a dozen or more of them. Such docile LARGE creatures.
We said bye to friends and off to my home to get ready for a long ride!

just catching you up

Well arrived in Maryland today, sorta expecting allot of snow on the ground! To my amazement it was 70 degrees when I got here! Guess I brought the good weather with me. I am so glad, cause my arthritic knee just doesn't like the cold! Have been told I need a knee replacement, but will fore go that until I get old! err older! or can't walk on it any longer!
I surprised the grand kids by getting here earlier than I had anticipated, good weather and little traffic made all the difference. They were so happy to see us!
Sad they had to go to their dad's this weekend, but just as well I may get some much needed rest!It's a long drive from Clearwater area to MD!
I will post later of the trip with pics! I took too many, have to share some!

Asked for prayer awhile back for a kiddo in my grand kids school. He died after all. Everyone here in MD were pretty shook up. Another boy died in Frederick, MD about the same time! From an infection! Dau #2 said even the news people were at the school! Why do the media have to be so invasive! It is hard enough for children & families to deal with a child's passing without the media in peoples faces!

wondering

Sorry all you folk weathering the storms up north. I just had to post this. This was taken last week when my sister-in-law arrived. On Clearwater Beach, It was a glorious day! I need to see this as a reminder what I am leaving behind when I travel up north on Wednesday.
I love walking on the beach and wishing I were afloat on this sailboat!

I have been a bit misty this week as we have been going through some of hubby's tools,remembering HIM and some of his life with our family.

Today is my mom's birthday-she would have been 85 today! She loved flowers so thought I would post the ones my neighbor gave me. My brother and I have been cahtting all day about how lucky we were to have a mom like her. She was the greatest mom a person could have!She is really missed. My one brother & sister had to grow up when she died!

WE decided my sister in law should also be here vacationing, so we flew her down for a week. She Loves, loves, loves it here. She had only been here once before. After arriving we took a ride out to Clearwater Beach. It was yummy out there! here is the trio. Sunny! huh. After that we went out to Shephard's a lovely restaurant. We took in the Calipso Bar part- live music, great eats, drinks & company!

Can you believe these shells on the beach! They were so pretty glistening in the sun. Summer days are coming you guys up north! I think I may have gotten a little sunburn yesterday.
Today is supposed to be a work day, but who knows? It is just too pretty to work!
Work will be there when we aren't. They are helping clean out hubby's tools. Ya just need a man sometimes to tell ya what all those tools are. That you just don't use. My brother can't believe just how many tools Jim had. He was the infinite collector!

1. the bear in the air was searching for a prisoner who escaped from a local jail! he was a rapist! I am glad they found him!
2. the plant was a Pencil Plant.
3. The day of fasting went great- it was a time of fasting for prayer, reflectiveness & spirituality. I really didn't get hungry until it was time to go to bed- I wanted a snack as I usually do before bed. But I maintained the fast!
4. The young student at my grandkids school has had 2 plasmphoresis and is doing really well after that. Please to continue to pray & praise for our blessings!
5. Work again tomorrow, last time till I return from Maryland! YEAH hopefully she can replace me before I return. I won't let her be in a lurch though. I am just not built that way, and I know that would be reciprocal!
6. My brother arrives safely from NJ- it took him longer than any time I have driven it-and he is a truck driver by trade? He took the long route through north & south Carolina- that's what happens when you stop to other family. He was a tired duck when he arrived here last night!

Please Pray

I am writing for a request of prayer. A young man, 10th grader, at my children's school has become very ill. Currently he is in the ICU at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Apparently he is not doing well at all, and things are looking very grave. He became ill over this past weekend. I am asking for your prayers for God to intercede and lay his healing hand upon this young man. Also to pray for the family and for fellow students at the school. The school is fairly small, and everyone knows everyone. So please keep Zach, his family, and MACA in your prayers.

Bear in the Air

This helicopter has been circling my place for at least an hour! During this time I went out to take the dog for a walk in the neighborhood. I asked a cyclist-what's up with the helicopter, she said I don't know.
A couple of guys were standing and chatting. I asked them. One replied "they are looking for a woman in white walking a small dog" laughter ensued of course! Then they said they were looking for a young guy with red hair and a beard!?
Most folk here say they are wasting allot of gas, why not get some folk on foot out here!?
Well, although it is driving me crazy and a bit unnerved I would rather them catch whomever it is, than they come wielding a knife/gun or the like at me or mine!
Maybe they are searching for a lost child I don't know, but let the police do their work! that's what they get paid for! I am sure we'll hear on the noon news!

fasting

I spent the day yesterday fasting. I can't really say I really felt hungry all day.I don't think I did a complete fast as I did have liquids to drink.
I told a few folk that I was fasting and they looked at me strangely-why would anyone do that? Are you having tests? are you a freak?
No I am doing it for religious reasons- it's not lent yet, why? why? why?

the other day I went to our community weekly open air market- they sell local crafts & food stuffs,vegetables/fruits, honey, nuts etc.
The picture shown here is on a wall on an artsy shop in town. I took several pics which I will post, very interesting. But this sun can't help you but smile!
While at the market, I went by a shop that had homemade sausage, so yummy smelling. So thought I would have one. I also thought I had a $20.00 bill in the handbag, I searched and searched-don't remember spending it. It was NOT there. I told the market owner I was sorry. They said you go ahead and take it. You can pay next time you come to the market! WOW in this day and age-when does that happen, but I am here to tell ya it did! I was so blessed! to see this charity to lil ole me. AND I will go back!

Moonshine

I kept trying to think up silly things about moonshine, ya know 'white lightning'
but it just wouldn't come. So blogger friends-who are definitely more 'bright' than me. Maybe you can say something.

I looked and read this quote and reread again and again! And all of a sudden said EEEK I get it. Believe it or not I am the one with divine peace & joy. (although my recent posts haven't reflected that)

Today is the birthday of a great friend of mine. After awhile we are going out for supper and toast one for her 60th. Then tomorrow eve a gang of us will be throwing a surprise Birthday party for her. I don't think she has a clue unless someone spilled the beans-I hope not. She is the friend that comes via plane to meet me somewhere when I travel back from up north. Ya don't get many friends that will do that! We have been friends for years, about 30 I think. We have been through allot together! She is one of the reasons I am presently living in Fla.

I think I have made a decision to either quit my job or go on per Diem- 'that is only work when they absolutely need me'. I really got so aggravated this past weekend. I really don't need it! I cried all weekend, not because of work but because of hubby. But work precipitated it! Daughter #2 says I should have taken off longer. Who knows.

I have to go up north in March. Dau#2 is having surgery on her ankle- so I am needed to help out with kiddos. Don't know how long we will be gone 2 weeks, 8 weeks or the whole summer. I do fly by a shoestring most of the time. At any rate if my friend, mentioned above finds someone who wants that job. I am needed by my grandkids!
I am gonna miss Spring Training though BOOHOO!

Just another windy shot from the other day

I worked today-eeek I don't want to work-so why am I?? I should be sitting in a rocking chair sipping a mint julep and crocheting or knitting or quilting. I should maybe be reading a book or keeping up with my present bible study.
I should walk on the beach-I LOVE the beach and only live about 2 1/2 miles max to it!

I made them just like my daddy did. He would clean them, then slice them, then put sugar on them to bring out the flavor! We would eat till we got full then later would have strawberry shortcake. My grands like them like he made them and say Grannyjax-make the strawberries like you do they are sooooo good! thereby, memories and traditions are made. Cause I know that's how my granny made them too.

Seems as though my memory does get a little worse as time goes by, but for stuff I really don't need to remember. Things from the past come to the memory when I need them! Now can I remember to pay bills! teehee just don't want to sit and do them. Have always been that way, in fact at one time in my life I had my momma do them and at another had dau#2 do them I HATE PAYING BILLS!

I have trouble remembering names too. I always remember a face! but a name escapes me. I think it's because I am a nurse and come in contact with so many people!
Thankfully I remember passwords, gads we have to remember so many of them!

1. Reality-sometimes cruel, but for the most part how I live- I don't like people telling even 'little white' lies however insignificant they may seem. Tell me the truth I can take it! We can correct it, but lie to me and you have to regain my trust!

3. Rainbow- how beautiful in the sky! we cran our necks to see. have ya ever seen a double one! I did one time overlooking a mountain in Colorado! To me it is a biblical truth! I hang onto.
4. Reassigned- a new favorite word- just received a letter from someone telling me Jim was reassigned to God's army- what a sweet written poem! What a wonderful thing to grab onto during this time!
5. Relatives- old ones, young ones, tall ones, short fat ones, I love em one and all, even ones that have been mean to me in the past-gotta forgive right!
6. Remembrances-goes with my feelings this week on memories-see my posts this week. We oft remember the bad times, but the good memories get us through to the next memory. I will always remember the night before we had the funeral and all my friends and families remembrances of Jim and our family over the years. Believe it or not it was a joyous occasion, almost irreverent at times. but 'us' and my crazy family!
7. Run- something I DON'T do. If God wanted me to run he would have given me a running body! not this plump granny figure! So don't ask me to run! The only running I do is "running an errand" or a 'runny nose'. actually I think run ought to be deleted from the dictionary! stop and smell the coffee, savor a moment!
8. Roses- lovely to look at especially the yellow and white ones,how about the red & pink ones and the new orange and variegated ones but don't send me any. I am allergic and I will start to sneeze! I have received a dozen roses more than once and loved em, BUT you should have seen my face all puffed up and listened to me sneeze!Thank God for antihistamines!
9. Rough times- puts everything into perspective. Makes one more thankful for what ya have!/had!
10. Ring- the pretty one I have on! the ring of truth, Resurrection for us all!

Dau #2 said to me , 'Mom when are ya gonna post something' so here goes. Guess I will just be a rambling granny today? This pic is of my grandchildren with their dad. Christmas morn 2008. They were excited from opening all their gifts, but not too sure they wanted to leave them behind to go with dad. We had to assure them they would be waiting upon their return. Huggs & kisses all around, a wonderful memory time, for this was one of the last times they would see grandpa! How lovely their dad let them have Christmas with us, as it was his turn this year.

I have been kinda quiet since my hubby's passing. Don't really know how long this silence will be holding me, quite weird actually, especially if ya really know me! Tears have pretty much escaped me, but I find myself sooo quiet? Is it disbelief that he is actually gone? Is it me thinking what shall I do now or next? so much to do, and don't want to start any of it??

A Real Loss

My hubby aka Jim, Mountain Man, Big Jim, Poppie, Honey died suddenly in my arms on Dec 19th. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas with much of our family. We went from home to home having Christmas over and over again.
He hadn't really been sick, but was suffering with arthritis in his knee he injured in football when in high school. We almost lost him back in 1999 after a heart attack & MRSA infection in his chest-complications from his triple bypass. Then again 4years back when he developed pickwichian syndrome, a syndrome named for Pickwick of Charles Dickens fame, developing obesity, somnolence & obstructive lung disease. He was using oxygen all the time and could hardly get around.
You see Jim weighed in at about 500 pounds. Then one day he decided to get gastric bypass surgery and became a trim 254 pounds @ 6ft 2in.
In his younger years he was quite an athlete, becoming ALL STATE in Football, Wrestling & Field & Track. He garnered a full scholarship to Northwestern University, but due to surgery & illness was unable to complete that endeavor.
He went into The Army Security Agency and served in Japan during the Vietnam Conflict. It was during this time we met-he was visiting his then girlfriend, who was a classmate of mine in nursing school.
We married when he finished with the army & I had completed my nursing school.
We lived in Colorado for the first 2yrs of marriage, our first dau was born there.
We moved back to NJ in 1970, our second dau born in '72. We would have been married
40 years in March.
He had a strong interest in education and seemed like he went to school most of our married life. He obtained an Assoc Degree in Nursing from Atlantic Community College, BS in Theological Studies @ Philadelphia Biblical University & then @ 62 just months before his passing, he completed his Doctorate in Theological Studies from Cantebury University.
He loved our move to Florida and his motorcycle. He also enjoyed woodworking.
I think the most precious in his life were his grandchildren, he wanted to teach them so many things! Also was his sincere love of the Lord & the bible.
I am having some difficulty with taking this all in, but I had him 10 years longer than I thought I would have back in '99. He was a GOOD man! A good hubby & friend. A good parent & grandparent. I am sure he is resting in peace, as he should be.


CARVER, JAMES L., PH.D., 63 - of Safety Harbor, FL, and formerly of Rosedale died on Monday at his residence in Rosedale. Born in Craig, Colorado he lived in Rosedale for 39 years before moving to Florida. He was an US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Carver was a register nurse having worked at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Cherry Hill; Ancora State Hospital; Kessler Hospital In Hammonton and Meadowview Nursing Home in Williamstown. He also formerly worked as a Colorado State Patrolman. He was a member of the Riders of the Lamb motorcycle club. Mr. Carver is survived by his wife: Jacqueline A. Carver (nee Wooton); two daughters: Melanie Ann Carver of Safety Harbor, FL; Shannon Marie Connors of Mt. Airy, MD his mother: Eva Grace Carver of Golden, CO; one sister: Karen L. Vogeler of Golden, CO; one brother: Lance Craig Carver of Browns Mill; four grandchildren: Kenneth James Connors; Elizabeth Mariah Connors; Michelle Leigh Connors and Daniel Jackson Connors. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday 11:00am in Victory Bible Church, 816 S. Egg Harbor Road, Hammonton, where a visitation with the family will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Airy Christian Academy 16700 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771. Arrangements are by the Carnesale Funeral Home, Hammonton, NJ.
