Memory

This is a pretty rose in bloom down here! it is so beautiful!

The memory should be specially taxed in youth, since it is then that it is strongest and most tenacious. But in choosing the things that should be committed to memory the utmost care and forethought must be exercised; as lessons well learnt in youth are never forgotten.
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788 - 1860)

Seems as though my memory does get a little worse as time goes by, but for stuff I really don't need to remember. Things from the past come to the memory when I need them! Now can I remember to pay bills! teehee just don't want to sit and do them. Have always been that way, in fact at one time in my life I had my momma do them and at another had dau#2 do them I HATE PAYING BILLS!

If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory. There seems something more speakingly incomprehensible in the powers, the failures, the inequalities of memory, than in any other of our intelligences. The memory is sometimes so retentive, so serviceable, so obedient; at others, so bewildered and so weak; and at others again, so tyrannic, so beyond control! We are, to be sure, a miracle every way; but our powers of recollecting and of forgetting do seem peculiarly past finding out.
Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), Mansfield Park

I have trouble remembering names too. I always remember a face! but a name escapes me. I think it's because I am a nurse and come in contact with so many people!
Thankfully I remember passwords, gads we have to remember so many of them!
Lately I have been remembering past events with family & friends, guess that's cause hubby died?
I almost always remember a dream-how many of ya remember dreams? do ya dream in color or black & white?
I know this post took a weird turn but that's my memory at work-you live with it HAHA!

This was a great post..The memory is tricky..People who have dementia lose the long term memories last..it must be terrible to know you are losing your cognitive abilities..Now look where my memory went...I don't know if I dream in color...I can't remember...I do have some scary ones though...

I never remember my dreams. Only a few through my whole life. I'm not sure why that is...

and my memory is definitely not what it use to be...not bad, but not too sharp, ha..

I often remember dreams, and they are always in vivid color. Names I'm terrible at, especially if the person is out of context. But I can rememebr an absurd amount of detail about people's lives (which I need to do for my job).
