Dog Days of Summer

Nothing is so good for an ignorant man as silence; and if he was sensible of this he would not be ignorant.
Saadi (1184 - 1291)

The dog days of summer are really here
when the air is oppressive as it can be.
Children are thinking of return to school
all too near.

The cicada are singing their unusual song,
the crickets join in like a jubilant throng.
The Squirrels are starting to gather the nuts.
Hummingbirds, butterflies are also around!

The lawn needs mowing every other day.
Is that a hurricane I hear is on the way?
Swimming pools cleaned more than in May.
Beaches are crowded as they can be.

All too soon it will be fall
when the trees turn color
red, yellow, & brown
in waiting for the first frost to fall.

So enjoy the end of the summer
as long as we can
even if its hot as can be.
Lets just go out and have a ball!

Your babies are adorable by the way.

I love summer. It's my favorite season. I'm a fair weather kind of gal. I'm not looking forward to the cold. So I'm off to enjoy every moment of summer.

Have a terrific day. :)

Nice post. Just finished mowing the backyard. It rained last night and early this morning. But just finished, and looks like it's going to rain again. I came in dripping. I can no longer mow the front and back on the same day, tires me out, plus I also did grocery shopping this morning, since I had to have granddaughter at school so early, was back from shopping by 8:45, I'm sure there are items I forgot, since I didn't have a list.

Granddaughter went back to school this morning, for some unknown reason they have stuck the 4th. grade in with the Intermediate students, grades 5 through 8. I invited two of her aunts over for dinner this evening, this way she can share her first day with her Mother, and us all at one time. So this means she gets out at 2:30, I will have to be over at the school at 2:15, and see how the pick up runs. At the other school it was a mess, but by Dec. since the levy passed, they started busing them, we only had to walk around the corner. This year, they claim, we live within one mile, so they won't be picked up. This school is a little further than the other school, so go figure. We live 9/10 of a mile from our drive way to the drive way to the school. I could probably put up a stink, but perhaps it's nice she isn't riding a bus with kids up to grade 12.

Enjoy what's left of summer. This one seemed to go faster than any I have gone through before. Like your doggies.

I love the quote. Cute dogs too. I can't tell you the last time I heard cicadas. I used to look forward to that in Colorado. Our trees are turning already although you can't tell by our heat fall is so close. Thanks for the upbeat post. :)

V Gal he is so huggable, I dare anyone not to like him!

The humidity reminds me of a statement from an exchange student from Iceland Who said:the air is so thinck you can cut it with a knife

Your dogs are adorable. Great post. I also enjoyed your post after this one. Looks like Bill didn't cause too many issues in the U.S. from what I gathered.
